FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Vorticel is a private AI research assistant for law firms — ask questions across your own documents and get answers grounded in your files, with citations to the exact source passage.
Is my firm's data used to train AI?
No. Vorticel never uses your firm's documents, questions, or answers to train any AI model — Vorticel's own or any third-party model. To make search work, document text is sent to Voyage AI (a MongoDB company) to be embedded, and only the passages retrieved for a given question are sent to Anthropic to draft the answer; the original files never leave encrypted storage. See the Security page for the full sub-processor list.
How does Vorticel keep one firm's files separate from another's?
Every document, extracted passage, and question is tagged with your firm's own account boundary the instant it's created, and every lookup is filtered to that boundary before results are returned. There is no shared search index across firms — the isolation is structural, not a setting. See the Security page for the full explanation.
Who else can access my firm's documents?
Your firm's own users, plus two AI vendors that process data as part of answering questions: Voyage AI (a MongoDB company) receives your documents' text to create the search embeddings, and Anthropic receives only the specific passages retrieved to answer a question. No other firm, and no platform staff without a fresh, individually re-verified elevation, can access your documents. See the Security page's sub-processors table for the full list of who receives what.
Does Vorticel send my documents to third parties?
Yes — to make search and answers work, document text is sent to Voyage AI to be embedded, and retrieved passages are sent to Anthropic to draft answers; the original files themselves never leave encrypted storage. Vorticel does not use your documents to train any model, and each vendor receives only the minimum data its step requires. See the Security page's sub-processors table for exactly what each vendor receives and when.
Does Vorticel give legal advice?
No. Vorticel is a document-search tool, not a lawyer — it finds and cites what your own uploaded documents say. It does not provide legal opinions, recommendations, or advice, and its answers are not a substitute for legal advice from a licensed attorney.
How accurate are the citations?
Every factual claim in a Vorticel answer is tied to a specific document and page. If your uploaded documents don't contain enough information to answer a question, Vorticel says it couldn't find the answer in your documents instead of guessing or filling the gap with outside knowledge.
What file types can I upload?
Vorticel accepts common document formats used in legal practice, including plain text, PDF, and Word (.docx) files. Uploaded files are extracted, chunked, and embedded so they can be searched and cited by page.
What happens to my documents if I cancel?
You can export your original documents at any time before or after cancelling. If your firm closes its account, contact us and we will delete your firm's documents and associated data from active systems, consistent with the retention terms in our Privacy Policy.
Do I need a credit card to start a trial?
No. Vorticel's 14-day free trial does not require a card. You'll only need to add billing details if you choose to continue on a paid plan.
Can my whole team use the same account?
Yes. Paid plans include multiple seats, so your firm can invite teammates to a shared workspace where everyone can upload documents and ask questions, with role-based permissions for who can manage billing and team membership.
Does Vorticel have an API?
Firm and Enterprise plans include REST API access and the Vorticel sync agent, which can automatically upload documents from a watched folder on your firm's own systems. See Docs for an overview.
