How it works

How Vorticel works.

Vorticel is a private AI research assistant for law firms — ask questions across your own documents and get answers grounded in your files, with citations to the exact source passage. This page covers the basics: uploading documents, asking questions, and automating ingestion with the API and sync agent.

Quickstart

  1. 1

    Create your firm's account

Start a free trial — no card required. This creates your firm's private workspace.

  2. 2

    Upload documents

From the Documents section, upload retainer agreements, contracts, correspondence, or discovery files. Each document is encrypted, extracted, and indexed automatically — you'll see a status change from processing to ready.

  3. 3

    Ask a question

Open Ask, type a question in plain English, and Vorticel returns an answer built only from your firm's documents, with a citation for every claim. If your documents don't contain the answer, Vorticel says so.

API and sync agent

Automate ingestion from the folders your firm already uses.

Firm and Enterprise plans include a REST API for uploading documents, asking questions, and checking usage programmatically. API requests are authenticated with a firm-level API key, generated from your account's API keys page — the key is shown once at creation and only a hash is stored afterward, so treat it like a password.

For firms that keep documents in an existing folder on their own systems, the Vorticel sync agent watches that folder and uploads new or changed files automatically using your API key, so you don't have to upload documents by hand. The agent is a single downloadable script, configured with your API key and the folder to watch, and can be scheduled to run periodically.

Good to know

What Vorticel does — and deliberately doesn't do.

Searches only your files

Retrieval is scoped to your firm's own library. Vorticel never searches the open internet or another firm's documents.

Cites document and page

Every claim in an answer names the source document and page so you can open the passage and verify it yourself.

Refuses when unsure

If the retrieved passages don't support an answer, Vorticel says it couldn't find it rather than guessing from outside knowledge.
